Steve Jablonsky To Make The Sims 3 Theme

It seems EA has moved on from Mark Motherbau, the creator of The Sims 2 theme, to Steve Jablonsky to create The Sims 3 Theme.    Previously Jablonsky did the soundtrack for Transformers.  In the Press Release Jablonsky states;

"“It is extremely exciting to be involved in a blockbuster project like The Sims 3, where the music sets the tone for the entire user experience,” said Jablonsky. “Working on one of the most anticipated games in the world, not to mention the best selling PC franchise of all time, is quite an honor and I’ve had a blast getting to know The Sims 3 team of talented individuals.”

The Full Press Release can be read below, but first why not take a listen to the theme, in this quick video slideshow i whipped up.

New Mansion & Garden Stuff Screens

EA Today released a few new Mansion & Garden Stuff Screens.  They are some interesting screens, but one in particular feels a big lacking, maybe its just me? [P.S. Sorry for the lack of updates lately, there really hasn't been that many updates from EA, or other Sources]

New Boxshots

Today Gamestop posted the new Boxshots for SimAnimals along with the back of The Sims 2: Mansion & Garden Stuff.  If you ask me, the Sim Animals while yes it is impressive, doesn't give a whole lot of substance, and reminds me a bit of the MySims Cover.  The Mansion & Garden Stuff boxshot looks like any other Stuff Pack boxshot.

Interview With CJ, Admin of The Simmers Club

Recently i interviewed the webmaster of The Simmers Club.  The Questions varied on many different topics.  Topics ranged From the Sims 2, to Simcity, to The running of a fansite.  Read the Full Interview Below:

"Skyline: So CJ, What was your main reason for starting The Simmers Club?
CJ: I wanted to create a friendly and enjoyable place for fans of sims games to hang out, share their creations and associate with other sims fans from all over the world

Skyline: Thats a really good main idea behind a site, but Why The Sims?  Why not another game or movie?
CJ: I have been a fan of sims games since I got SimCity3000, and enjoy playing sims games more than any other game I have, so it seemed logical to start a site centering about my favorite games

Skyline: Do you have a favorite moment while Playing one of the Sims games?
CJ: probably my most memorable moment was when I reached over 1,000,000 population on a medium size map in SimCity4

Skyline: Wow Thats Impressive!  What do you find to be the best aspect of the Simcity Franchise?
CJ: managing all the aspects of keeping your city thriving and trying to create that ideal utopia

Skyline: Do you think the recent set of Simcity games have ventured a bit too far off that main aspect, you really enjoy?  or have they stayed more on par with that you enjoy about the franchise?
CJ: i was very dissapointed as many others were with the direction of the simcity that occured with Simcity Societies

Skyline: What is the best part about managing a Sims Fansite, such as The Simmers Club?
CJ: The people, the great members that upload their amazing creations to share and helpful friendly people that help each other and inspire each other to do more in the game, that is what keeps me wanting to keep this site going as long as I can.

Skyline: What Tips can you give to those, who want to start a fansite of their own?
CJ: Be patient, and don't get discouraged, TSC did not become what it is today overnight, it took time and a lot of great people to make this place what it is today, the same holds true with all other popular fansites. I also advise, be original, make your site stand out from the others, but most importanly have fun with it, if you are having fun with it, that is all that really matters!.

Skyline: Do you think that The Sims 2 has met all of the Fans Expectations?  Did it Miss any of those Expectations?
CJ: I think at this point, most of the expectations of sims fans have been met with the sims 2 as much as that game can handle as far as adding expansions.

Skyline: What is your favorite of The Sims 2 Expansions and why?
CJ: My favorite is still Nightlife, because I found the ability to create downtown sub-neighborhoods a great addition and also the fun social interactions that were included with that EP, Seasons is a close runner up though for my favorite

Skyline: Why do you play The Sims 2 the way you do?
CJ: I pretty much dabble in all the gameplay aspects of the sims, but I enjoy building lots (mainly commuinty lots) the best, it is a chance to create a fun lot then send my sims to enjoy the building of my own design.

Skyline: What is your favorite of the Maxis Developed Franchises? (Spore, Sims, Simcity, etc.)
CJ: SimCity, it is the first sims game that got me into the sims franshise, and I am still hoping for a new SimCity title that is more like a progression and improvement from SimCity4. I really was disspointed with SimCity Societies.

Skyline: Thanks for Doing this interview CJ! :D
CJ: You are Welcome! [I am] honored to be the first interview"

There you have it!  Our First Interview!  We hope to add them often from here on out!

After issues getting this months Sims 3 VIP issue out, it has finally arrived in your mailbox.  The Access code for this month is "52685" .  The VIP update contains info regarding Careers.  Producer Ray Mazza Writes:

"Your Sims can look for these jobs in the newspaper or apply right at the building where they’d like to work. If you want them to be musicians, head down to the theater to join up and then maybe stay for a show afterwards!"
There will be a lot of old careers along with some new ones.

The Sims 2: Open for Business Review

Another one of my Expansion pack reviews, this review is for the 3rd Expansion to The Sims 2, Open for Business!  If you need help with our review system simply search for "Review" or check out our earlier reviews:

Loved:

Deep Gameplay:
Its sometimes hard to see a lot of depth in sims expansions sometimes, but OFB (Open for Business) is a shining example of depth.  Theres just so many things to do with this pack.  You have a ton of options to control your business.  A massive benefit is the ability to sell catalog items, rather then making everything yourself

Talent Badges:
A great thing OFB bring to the table is the talent badges.  A system like skill points, but it actually unlocks you the ability to make better objects (again a lot like skill points).  Talent badges are very useful, even if your not running a business.  Other packs like Seasons, and Freetime add more talent badges to the collection that comes with OFB

Simple yet Complex:
While it is easy to start up a home business (Home businesses is what i would recommend), it is hard to master them, giving you a grand sense of accomplishment when you reach say a level 9, or 10 Business

Bluewater Village:
OFB adds a new Sub-Neighborhood, which is probably my favorite of all the packs.  It has a well constructed story, and comes with Tons of Pre-Built lots and families.  Its a great place to start out, and learn the ropes of owning a business.

Hated:

Managing a Community Lot Business:
The real only thing i don't like in OFB is owning and managing a community business.  I really don't understand why they made it so difficult to manage your community lot businesses.  It is MUCH easier to do a home business

The Sims 2 Open for Business Expansion Played to full many times, reaching a level 10 business once, and many level 9 businesses.  Released: Spring 2006

EA Stock Report

Once again we hit you with the EA Stock report. EA Stock went up today, not a whole lot but .96 points (about 3%) up to todays price of $27.49 per share

New Sims 3 Blog Update

Well JoAnna Lio, Associate Producer of The Sims 3 Pictured at left, today updated the official site blog, I'm surprised they are actually keeping it up to date, The new entry is mainly about the town life of your Sims.

If you pick one of the smaller houses behind the town hall, they’ll have quick access to the activity of the town center, but their surroundings won’t be as nice as the coastal lots nestled among the pine trees. If you decide you want your Sims to live up on Summer Hill, they’ll have scenic vistas and colorful, wealthy neighbors for sure, but they’ll have to earn enough money to build there and they’ll spend more time in the car commuting to work.
View the Whole Update

Mansion & Garden Stuff Boxshot

As you can see by the image to the left, EA has published the Box-art for Mansion & Garden Stuff.  The boxshot was found at the EA Store.  The game will ship this november

Thanks to CJ from The Simmers Club for the Tip!

The Sims 2: Nightlife Review

So in the week for reviews, i have written up another, this time for The Sims 2: Nightlife Expansion.

Loved:

New Objects and Interactions:
A Majority of the objects and interactions in the Nightlife expansion are simply top notch. The ones you find when going out to a club are particularly well done, and really present a good sense of feeling like your actually in a club.

Downtown:
The new Sub-Neighborhood in Nightlife is really well done. Its pretty much full, with a few spaces here and there to build your own clubs and houses. A Majority of the clubs are good, the same goes for the community lots and restaurants

Cars:
One of the biggest aspects of the pack are that your Sims can FINALLY own cars. After 5 years they have finally have decided to add cars, and they work really well. While there are only a few types of cars, they all run well, and look nice. The Animations are fantastic!

Hated:

Chemistry System:
I'm not a fan of the Turn-On, Turn-Off system, i think it makes the game a bit harder then it needs to be. I liked the old way of simple attraction, or i would have liked this idea for if it had more Options for turn-ons and turn-offs. 2 Turn-Ons and 1 Turn-Off isn't a hugely effective system

The Lack of Good Nightclubs:
While the nightclubs that are downtown are fantastic. There's only a few that are just nightclubs. There are a few others that are "Partial Nightclubs" where they give you the Dance floor and Bar, but no Dance- Sphere. I wish there could have been more maybe

The Sims 2 Nightlife Expansion, Retail copy, played through many times, use a majority of its aspects regularly including Careers, Objects etc. Released: Fall 2005

Reminder

Just as a reminder we are still looking for staff here at Simmers News. Most needed is a European or Australian user, but really anyone should be fine. Email us your Application with why you think you should be part of our staff at:

The Sims 2: University Review

Now i plan on borrowing a review system, from the guys over at Kotaku No Score will be given, just a short review with several "Love/Hate" descriptions.

The Sims 2: University Expansion Pack Review

Loved:

New Content and Objects:
University (Uni for Short) adds TONS of new objects, my personal favorite is probably the band instruments. All of the object work well, and are well animated. There are plenty of them to keep you occupied in college for a long time

Dorms:
The Dorm system works surprisingly well. Your Sim simply claims a door and it is theirs for the next 4 years (or about 25 Sim Days?). The majority of dorms also feature objects that will for the most part, get your Sim through college with no trouble at all

Its Easy:
Graduating from university with a 4.0 is really easy. It is also worth a BOATLOAD of aspiration points (i tend to near 100,000) , so it is well worth the time, but at the same time it is very easy, and simple to go through

The Cowplant:
Whenever you put the head of a Cow, on a man eating plant, it just has to be great. The cowplant (A Natural Scientist Reward) is one of the best objects in the game. Fluid Animations, nice textures, and a nice creative object.

Hated:

Its Too Long:
While Yes it is very easy to master getting a 4.0 GPA, it takes forever. Normally in the 3-5 Hour range. It takes a really big time commitment, this simply multiplies when you add more Sims into the mix

Its not all that rewarding:
Sure it unlocks a few careers (The Showbiz one is the most notable), but other then that, its not like you gain a whole lot of Skills, or Money. Overtime it will, but you still only have §20,000 to buy a house with, and that's just not fun

Repetitive:
The game tends to grate on you about halfway through sophomore year, it feels like your just doing the same 4 or 5 things each semester (There are 8 Semesters). Write a term paper, go to class, do an assignment, gain a certain skill, Repeat. I just think they could have added more gameplay

The Sims 2 University Expansion; Retail Copy Played through University many times, have explored a majority of the careers, and objects. Date of Release: Spring 2005

IGN Reviews The Sims 2 Apartment Pets

The Reviews for the Sims 2 Apartment Pets for the DS so far have been poor. IGN puts the icing on the cake with their review

The Sims 2: Apartment Pets' charm wears off very quickly. There are plenty
of other pet vet/pet spa games on the DS, and "The Sims" thing was what this
title had going for it. Unfortunately all Sims related elements are so toned
down that they may as well not be in there. The game is embarrassingly
shallow for something that has "The Sims" in the title.

Apartment Pets has a Metascore of 47 currently, which is simply poor.
