IGN Charts the Sims Expansions

Sorry again for the lack of news pieces as of late. My PC died and my new one is arriving on the 15th, so things should get better after that.

Anyway, IGN put up a feature which charts all of the TS1 and TS2 expansions. The feature is kind of useless, but is a nice peace regardless. Check it out here

IGN Reviews MySims Party

IGN posted its review for MySims Party today giving it a 6/10 or "Passable". This is the lowest MySims game rating thus far. Daemon Hatfield has this to say

What is here is enough to be a fun little mini-game collection (again, for kids). In our review for MySims Kingdom last year we wrote that Electronic Arts could be doing much more with this franchise. That is still the case.
In a Nutshell it is a decent Mini-game collection for kids, similar to Mario Party or Carnival Games.

Will Wright Ranked Third Top Developer Of All Time

IGN has been doing a top 100 countdown of the best game designers of All time, and today they have released 10-1 of the list. Will Wright managed to snag the #3 spot, behind the greats of Sid Meier, who led the civilization series to stardom, and Shigeru Miyamoto the legend behind practically anything nintendo. IGN had this to say about Will Wright

Will Wright is one of the true pillars of modern game design. His work on SimCity, The Sims, and the recently-released Spore has rightfully earned him a spot among the most celebrated designers working in the games industry today. Wright is well known for his far-reaching and eccentric analysis of the videogame industry as well as his fixation with popular culture. He is one of the few people in the business that can mesmerize a room with his observations on just about any subject you can imagine.

He's the creator of a string of wildly successful games dating all the way back to Raid on Bungling Bay in 1984, the aforementioned SimCity series in the late '80s and early '90s -- which defined the modern simulation in just about every way -- and of course, the enormously popular life imitator, The Sims. Wright has been intrinsically linked with all Maxis properties (a company he helped start) for years. The success of his wildly ambitious and approachable games has allowed him the freedom to continue creating titles that were sandbox experiences more than linear experiences.

Wright has continued to develop "Sim" games, which are among the most successful and widely-played gaming titles of all time. The Sims' popularity inspired Wright to create the even more ambitious Spore -- a procedurally-generated simulation that tracks development from single-celled organisms into an entire galaxy. It The concept sounded impossible before it became a reality in 2008, enjoying commercial success and critical praise.

"When you give someone a toy of a system," Wright told Apple.com last year, "it gives them a new perspective on it. They see that system as a dynamic, organic thing. Living in it in the real world, they don't notice day-to-day changes in it, but when that system is sped up over 50 years or more, they see the changes clearly. And they gain a new perspective on it."

Indeed, it's a new perspective that Wright provides the entire industry with every new idea he brings to the table.

IGN Reviews Sim Animals

IGN today released their review for Sim Animals giving it a 5.3/10 (Which is Mediocre). With that they said
"It didn't take long for the controls to get on my nerves. The remote is used to point and select objects while the nunchuk handles movement and camera rotation. Pointer control is very finicky, often making it difficult to select animals or enter menus. To do some planting or heavy petting you have to waggle your onscreen icon over a seed/animal, but the game won't always register your actions. Worse, if a seed lands in a bed of flowers or is similarly obstructed you can't even get at it. "

We will keep you updated on reviews!

The Sims 3 to Rule 2009 Says IGN

IGN PC today put out their preview piece for 2009 today, and in it they give The Sims 3 the Silver Top Game of 2009 award, 2nd to only Bioshock 2

The Sims as a series has sold 100 million games in less than a decade, and with The Sims 3 it's a brave new 3D world as the scope of the game expands from a single household to an entire town. With more realistic personalities and a whole lot more to do, it's hard to see how this game won't delight The Sims' large and loyal fan base.

MySims Kingdom Nominated for Best Wii Simulation Game of 2008

MySims kingdom was the runner up for Best Simulation game for the Wii in 2008 by IGN.com today. While yes there was only one other game (animal Crossing City Folk, which won) it still shows that MySims Kingdom is here to stay. Congrats to all the folks at EA who worked on the game.

IGN Reviews MySims Kingdom

IGN has finally reviewed MySims Kingdom, giving it a decent 7.3 "Decent" score.

"MySims Kingdom is a safe sequel with just enough improvements to satisfy fans of the first game. While some enhancements have arrived free of sacrifices, others have come with trade-offs. I love the new themed kingdom design, the significant improvements to load times, on-the-fly construction and Wii controller implementation. Meanwhile, I think the more focused storyline has also nurtured a more linear experience, a fact that clashes with the nature of the franchise. On the same note, the underdeveloped AI characters and missing online component seem at odds with the other Sims games. This is still a fun title -- one with more polish than the original -- but I think EA can still do much more with the series and am eagerly awaiting the next version."

Metacritic has yet to add the score from IGN.

IGN Reviews The Sims 2 Apartment Pets

The Reviews for the Sims 2 Apartment Pets for the DS so far have been poor. IGN puts the icing on the cake with their review

The Sims 2: Apartment Pets' charm wears off very quickly. There are plenty
of other pet vet/pet spa games on the DS, and "The Sims" thing was what this
title had going for it. Unfortunately all Sims related elements are so toned
down that they may as well not be in there. The game is embarrassingly
shallow for something that has "The Sims" in the title.

Apartment Pets has a Metascore of 47 currently, which is simply poor.
